Thousands of Argentina supporters are calling for a replay of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory, alleging poor officiating during the match.

Spain secured the title on Sunday in New Jersey after substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute. Argentina, the defending champions, failed to register a shot on target during regulation time and finished the match with 10 men following Enzo Fernández’s red card in the 93rd minute.

Frustration spilled over at the final whistle, with several Argentina players becoming involved in on-field confrontations. Reports indicated that Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina were among those involved in the altercations.

A Change.org petition launched by Gisela Sanchez has since attracted more than 82,000 signatures, urging FIFA to investigate the performance of Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić and replay the final. The petition alleges, without providing evidence, that the referee influenced the outcome of the match.

“The recent final between Argentina and Spain was marred by the controversial and corrupt actions of the referee,” the petition states, calling on FIFA to review the match and consider staging a replay.

Meanwhile, a separate online petition has called for Argentina to be banned from future FIFA competitions. According to reports, the petition attracted millions of signatures before it was closed.

During the final, referee Vinčić awarded 46 fouls, with Argentina responsible for 25 of them. Fernández was sent off after receiving two yellow cards, the second for a reckless challenge on Spain defender Pau Cubarsí.

FIFA is yet to comment on the replay petition but is reportedly reviewing the conduct of Argentina’s players following the post-match incidents. There has been no indication from the governing body that the result of the final will be reconsidered.
