The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The donation was announced during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security network to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife. The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the palace and signed by Sodiq Lawal on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare.

Speaking during the visit, the Ooni commended Igboho for his commitment to improving community security, describing the protection of lives and property as a shared responsibility that goes beyond political, religious and ideological differences.

“Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences. Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support,” the monarch said.

The Ooni also called on traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals and other Yoruba stakeholders to support the Iru Ekun Security Network, stressing that unity is essential to safeguarding peace and development across Yorubaland.

In his response, Igboho thanked the monarch for the financial and logistical support, describing the Ooni as “the father of all Yoruba people worldwide.” He said the visit was also aimed at updating the monarch on the activities of the security outfit and seeking his continued guidance.

Igboho disclosed that plans were underway to organise a regional security summit involving traditional rulers across Yorubaland to discuss practical solutions to insecurity. According to him, the summit, subject to the Ooni’s approval, is expected to be held at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
