The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man and recovered stolen roofing materials valued at N2.26 million following a burglary in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said the arrest was made through intelligence-led policing and routine visibility patrols after a shop owner reported the theft on Tuesday.

According to Habib, the victim, a 35-year-old businessman from Gandunwambai, Azare, discovered that unidentified persons had broken into his shop along Kano Road using a master key and stolen 460 metres of Stonecut roofing sheets.

Detectives from the Azare Police Division were immediately deployed to investigate the case. Acting on credible intelligence, they intercepted the stolen roofing materials along the Azare–Jama’are Road and arrested one suspect, identified as Muktari Rufa’i, 35.

Police said the recovered roofing sheets were valued at N2,260,000. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime and identified another man, Evra Pizo, as his accomplice.

The second suspect remains at large, while efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him, the police said.

The arrested suspect is in custody at the Azare Police Division and will be transferred to the cin Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended officers of the Azare Division for their prompt response and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts to combat crime.
