The family of late Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has dismissed widespread reports claiming she died from cancer, describing the information circulating online as false and unverified.

Osoba’s death was announced on Tuesday evening, nearly two years after she publicly sought financial assistance for breast cancer surgery and treatment. The actress had spoken with colleagues shortly before her death and shared the phrase “Ogo Tuntun” (New Glory) on her WhatsApp status.

In a statement posted on the actress’s official Instagram page on Thursday, the family clarified that cancer was not the cause of her death, although they did not disclose the actual cause.

“We are deeply saddened by the spread of false and unverified reports concerning the passing of our beloved,” the statement read. “We wish to categorically state that the numerous claims circulating on social media and various blogs regarding the circumstances surrounding her death are false, speculative, and entirely unauthorized.”

The family appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified information, saying it only deepens their grief during a difficult period.

They added that further details about Osoba’s passing will be communicated through her official social media page.
