The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unanimously endorsed FIFA’s acknowledgment of mistakes in the handling of its proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise, while reaffirming its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The decision was reached at a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee, which also reaffirmed the continental body’s commitment to governance, transparency and due process.

FIFA unveiled the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise on July 28, 2026, as a commercial subsidiary intended to manage its commercial and event operations, including the World Cup, and raise $4.2 billion through the sale of minority stakes to investors.

The proposal was subsequently withdrawn following criticism that FIFA’s Council and member associations were not sufficiently consulted during its development.

In a joint statement issued on August 6, Infantino and FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström acknowledged that mistakes had been made in the process and apologised. FIFA also announced a review of the proposal, which it said had been taken off the table.

The football governing body maintained, however, that the steps taken in developing the proposal were in compliance with its regulatory framework.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe said the continental body welcomed FIFA’s position and reaffirmed its commitment to global best practices in governance, transparency and auditing.

“CAF welcomes and endorses the ‘Joint Update’ by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafström,” Motsepe said. He added that adherence to governance, due process and transparency was “crucial and non-negotiable.”

The CAF Executive Committee also thanked Infantino, Grafström and the FIFA administration for what it described as a successful 2026 FIFA World Cup, while reaffirming its support for the FIFA president.

CAF said it would continue to focus on developing African football, including players, coaches, national teams and domestic leagues, while working with sponsors and partners to strengthen the continent’s football infrastructure and financial sustainability.
