
Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of a lecturer at the Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Vice-Chancellor Prof. Timothy Terseer Alabar has disclosed.
Alabar made the disclosure on Monday while responding to questions from journalists in Makurdi, Benue State.
The victim, Prof. Gabriel Saawuan Nyityo, a professor in the Department of History, was killed by suspected gunmen at his residence in Makurdi on July 7, 2026. His younger sibling was also killed in the incident.
The Vice-Chancellor described Nyityo’s death as a major setback for the university, particularly the Department of History.
According to Alabar, security agencies briefed the university that five suspects had been arrested in connection with the killings. He said the suspects were reportedly from Awe Local Government Area of neighbouring Nasarawa State.
The Vice-Chancellor did not disclose further details about the identities of the suspects or the circumstances surrounding their arrests, as investigations into the incident continue.
