The Ogun State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria has commended the state government and security agencies for securing the release of poultry farmer, Oreoluwa Osonuga, who was abducted in Ikenne.

Osonuga, 33, was reportedly kidnapped on August 9, 2026, while driving out of a farm settlement in Ikenne. The attackers allegedly opened fire on his vehicle before dragging him into a nearby bush.

The incident raised concern among farmers in the area after the kidnappers reportedly contacted Osonuga’s family and demanded N500 million as ransom.

Following the abduction, operatives of the police anti-kidnapping unit and military personnel launched a search operation in the surrounding forest, leading to the farmer’s eventual release.

In a statement on Friday, AFAN’s Public Relations Officer, Sogunle Rotimi, expressed the association’s “profound appreciation” for the government and security agencies for their intervention.

The association said the successful operation underscored the importance of effective security in protecting farmers and sustaining agricultural activities in rural communities and farm settlements.

AFAN also recalled that another farmer in the Ikenne area was abducted on April 1 and spent several days in captivity before regaining his freedom after a ransom was reportedly paid.

While welcoming Osonuga’s release, the association urged the government and security agencies to strengthen security around farm settlements across the state.

AFAN said farmers needed adequate protection for their lives, workers and investments to contribute effectively to food production and the state’s agricultural development.
