Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, is leading in Saturday’s governorship election.
Davido made the claim in a series of social media posts as sorting and counting of votes began at polling units across the state.
The singer also claimed that the Bisi Akande lost the polling unit of former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande.
“Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory,” Davido wrote, while urging residents to remain vigilant during the collation process.
He also called for security agencies to remain at polling locations, saying their presence should not be withdrawn while the results were being collated.
Meanwhile, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission have commenced the sorting and counting of ballots following the conclusion of voting across the state.
As of 5:51 p.m. on Saturday, results from 1,695 of the 3,763 polling units had been uploaded to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal, according to a check of the platform.
The three leading candidates had earlier expressed confidence in winning the election. Adeleke of the Accord Party voted in Ede North, while APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji cast his ballot in Ikire. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam, however, raised concerns over the alleged non-recognition of his party’s agents in some areas.
INEC had not officially declared a winner as of the time of filing this report.
