The Independent National Electoral Commission has uploaded about 60 per cent of the results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election to its Results Viewing Portal, IReV.

A check of the portal at 6:10 p.m. showed that INEC was making progress with the electronic upload of polling unit results as collation continued across the state.

Osun voters went to the polls to elect the next governor for a four-year term, with 15 political parties listed on the ballot.

Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party against candidates including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress.

Two candidates, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement, had announced their withdrawal from the race. However, both parties remained on the ballot. Adeyemi-Doro endorsed Oyebamiji, while Adewale backed Adeleke.

Adeleke had earlier secured victory at Polling Unit 026, Ward 5, in Osogbo Local Government Area. The Accord Party polled 57 votes at the unit, while the APC scored 43 votes.

Results from other polling units have continued to emerge as the collation process progresses.

The election was largely peaceful in several areas, although reports of voter intimidation, vote-buying and other forms of electoral violence were recorded in some parts of the state.
