President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor *Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the Osun State governorship election.
A chieftain of the Accord Party, Pelumi Olajengbesi, disclosed this to journalists at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo after Adeleke was declared winner.
According to Olajengbesi, Tinubu called Adeleke on Saturday night to congratulate him after results across the state showed the incumbent leading his closest challenger, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
“The President congratulated Governor Adeleke last night,” Olajengbesi said.
He also commended Tinubu for not interfering in the electoral process, saying the President kept his promise to allow Osun people to freely choose their governor despite the political tension before the poll.
Adeleke Wins With 511,067 Votes
INEC formally declared Adeleke winner of the election conducted across the state’s 30 local government areas in the early hours of Sunday.
Adeleke, of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji of the APC who scored 444,815 votes.
*Najeem Salaam* of the ADC emerged second runner-up.
A total of 15 political parties contested the election. INEC said 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards were collected in the state.
The election was held amid heightened tension over security deployment.
Adeleke’s nephew and singer, *David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido*, criticised Tinubu on X over the development.
“U no try @officialABAT,” he wrote, accusing the President of failing to protect democracy.
He had earlier alleged that plans to withdraw police and military personnel were aimed at undermining the process.
“Because we are winning. They want to withdraw the police and military! MR PRESIDENT TINUBU! UR KILLING DEMOCRACY,” he posted.
Davido also advised INEC officials to use the front camera of the BVAS where the main camera failed.
“If your BVAS camera is not working, please tell the officials to use front camera. It is very active and fast!” he said.
He had earlier urged local and international observers to monitor the conduct of the election closely.
Despite the controversies, INEC completed collation and declared Adeleke the winner.
