Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election, securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, announced the result at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.

Ogunwole declared Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord, duly elected after announcing the results collated from the 30 local government areas of the state.

Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes to finish second, while the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

According to the Returning Officer, 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, while 1,005,800 votes were cast. Of the votes cast, 985,079 were valid and 20,721 were recorded as rejected.

Declaring the result, Ogunwole said, “Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected.”

Adeleke’s victory secures another term in office after he defeated Oyebamiji, who secured victories in several local government areas across the state.

The election results were signed by agents of the participating political parties before the Returning Officer formally announced Adeleke as the winner.
