Chief Sir Joseph Ebere Ezeokafor, chairman of Jezco Group of Companies and father of social media personality Jowi Zaza, has returned to his hometown of Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State after regaining his freedom.
Ezeokafor, a septuagenarian, was released on Friday night after spending nearly two weeks in the custody of his abductors.
He was received by family members and residents of the community on Monday, with a video shared on social media showing a large crowd gathered at his residence to welcome him.
Several rural women were seen embracing Ezeokafor and thanking God for his safe return. Some knelt or lay on the ground in celebration.
The Anambra State Police Command had on Saturday confirmed the release of Ezeokafor and a Reverend Sister who were abducted by armed men at Ifite-Awka.
The command said the two victims had returned safely, adding that security agencies were working to establish the circumstances surrounding their release and gather information that could aid the investigation.
Ezeokafor was abducted in the early hours of Tuesday while reportedly travelling to a prayer ground in Awka, Anambra State.
The police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the abduction or the victims’ release.
