Nigerian music star Davido has backed the idea of couples maintaining separate bank accounts, saying both partners should have independent finances for their personal security.
The singer made the remarks during an appearance on The Uncut Podcast, where he was asked whether women should maintain secret bank accounts without their partners’ knowledge.
Davido said he had no problem with the idea and believed financial independence should apply to both men and women in a relationship.
“Yeah, I think it’s good. I actually think they should; you never know,” he said.
The singer added that he would not be upset if he discovered that his wife had a separate account, arguing that everyone should have personal financial resources.
Davido said people could not predict what might happen in the future and should therefore maintain some level of financial independence.
“If I ever found out that my wife had a secret bank account, I’d not be angry; I think everybody should have their own,” he said.
He maintained that having personal finances could help couples remain financially prepared and better able to cope with unexpected changes in their circumstances.
