The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State has conducted a fresh primary election for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District, with Dr Ideyi Prince Gamax emerging as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.
The substitution primary was held at the party’s state secretariat on Thursday, where Gamax, the sole aspirant, secured all 450 votes cast by delegates from the senatorial district.
Announcing the result, the Returning Officer and Deputy Chairman of the ADC in Ebonyi State, Dr Victor Uduma, said party members overwhelmingly endorsed Gamax to represent the district in the 2027 election.
Speaking after the exercise, Gamax said the fresh primary was conducted as part of the party’s administrative process following an earlier primary held on April 22, 2026, in which he also emerged as the party’s candidate.
He expressed confidence that the ADC would win the Ebonyi South senatorial seat in 2027, saying consultations across the district showed that residents were seeking a change in representation.
“Our people are eager for change, and they see the ADC as a platform that can provide effective representation and deliver the dividends of democracy,” Gamax said.
The ADC State Chairman, Dr Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, described the primary as peaceful and transparent, adding that it was monitored by security agencies, the media and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
She explained that the substitution primary became necessary following changes in the party’s earlier nomination process and was conducted on the directive of the ADC national leadership.
Adibe-Nwafor dismissed reports of a parallel primary election, insisting that the exercise held at the party secretariat was the only recognised primary in the state.
She also confirmed that the ADC would participate in the Ebonyi State local government elections scheduled for August 22, expressing optimism that the party would perform strongly in the polls.
