Wike Bans Car Dealerships on Abuja Green Areas

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate suspension of the use of green areas, parks and gardens in Abuja as car dealership lots.

Wike expressed concern over the conversion of areas designated for recreation, including parts of the Millennium Park, into commercial spaces.

He directed the FCT Administration to monitor such areas and ensure that all unauthorised activities are stopped.

The directive is part of measures by the FCT Administration to address flooding in parts of the Federal Capital City, with officials seeking to protect green spaces and natural drainage areas.

A task force has been established to enforce the directive and prevent further encroachment on designated parks and green areas.

Wike also ordered an investigation into civil servants allegedly involved in granting unauthorised approvals for the conversion of green areas into car dealership lots.

The affected officials, including directors responsible for Parks and Recreation, Environmental Protection, Traffic Management and Urban Affairs, have been summoned by the FCT Head of Service, Nancy Sabanti Nathan.

The administration is expected to review existing approvals and take appropriate action against officials or operators found to have violated planning and environmental regulations.
