Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling cancer.
The actor’s death was announced on Sunday, August 23, by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an emotional Instagram Live session. Multiple Nigerian news outlets have also reported the development.
Ogogo’s death comes days after his family publicly disclosed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for urgent medical assistance.
His daughters, Kira and Lima, had earlier sought help from medical specialists and hospitals capable of providing further treatment for the veteran actor. The family had also clarified that their primary request was for medical intervention rather than financial donations.
The actor, who built a career spanning more than four decades, was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood and was widely recognised for his roles in numerous films.
His death comes less than a week after an earlier report claiming he had died was debunked by his family.
Details surrounding his death were still emerging as of Sunday evening.
