Nigerian dancer and socialite Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, is reportedly being held on remand in the United Kingdom over an alleged assault offence and is expected to appear before a London court in September.

Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the Nigerian community in the UK, confirmed the development in a conversation with our correspondent on Monday.

Kuti said Poco Lee is currently in a UK prison and is scheduled to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at 10am.

“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” Kuti said.

He explained that a plea hearing is where an accused person is expected to indicate whether they intend to plead guilty or not guilty to the alleged offence.

Kuti said he planned to attend the proceedings to support Poco Lee and other members of the Nigerian community who require assistance with legal matters in the UK.

“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” he said.

Reports of Poco Lee’s alleged detention began circulating online on August 19. Initial reports did not identify the alleged complainant or provide details of the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.

The reports also did not initially include independent confirmation from UK police or the court regarding the arrest or charges.

An email sent to Snaresbrook Crown Court seeking confirmation of the case details had not received a response as of the time of filing. Poco Lee’s scheduled appearance remains subject to confirmation by the relevant authorities.
