Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects.

The operation was conducted on August 24 following sustained intelligence on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility, located on Toluwalase Street, via Gbarinmole.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the rescued women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.

The police also recovered four children—two boys and two girls—and arrested Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Idaya.

Babaseyi said further investigations led officers to a hospital in the Mowe area, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had delivered a baby boy on August 20. The where abouts of the newborn were reportedly unknown while the mother was receiving medical treatment, leading to the nurse’s arrest as police continued efforts to locate the child.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities, locate the missing infant and prosecute those found culpable.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking, child trading and other violent crimes in Ogun State.
