The Independent National Electoral Commission has denied allegations that it replaced candidates nominated by the Nigeria Democratic Congress with unauthorised names in some constituencies in Anambra State.
The commission said the responsibility for nominating candidates and uploading their details to the INEC portal rests solely with political parties.
The clarification followed allegations by the NDC that INEC had uploaded and published names of individuals who were not authorised by the party to contest in some constituencies in the state.
INEC said it would examine its records to establish what happened and address any discrepancies involving the candidates’ details.
The commission maintained that political parties are responsible for submitting their nominated candidates through the designated portal for publication.
The development comes amid concerns over the accuracy of candidate information published ahead of the elections.
