Eight Feared Trapped as Two-Storey Building Collapses in Ilorin

At least eight people are feared trapped after a two-storey building collapsed in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, early Tuesday morning.

The building reportedly collapsed around 5:30 a.m. at Popo-Giwa, Masalasi Gogoro area, off Ajikobi Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area.

A visit to the scene by our correspondent, Olayinka Alabi, showed that rescue efforts were underway. Residents said those feared trapped included nursing mothers and children.

Personnel of the Kwara State Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and residents were seen working together to search through the debris and rescue possible survivors.

Officials of the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency were also at the scene to coordinate rescue operations.

Efforts to obtain comments from officials at the scene and the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The cause of the collapse has not yet been established. Rescue operations were ongoing as of press time.
