Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference as a “flop”, accusing the association’s leadership of allowing politics to overshadow issues affecting the legal profession.

Wike made the remarks during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he also questioned the legacy of the current NBA president.

“Instead of concentrating on issues affecting the NBA, they started playing politics,” the minister said.

Wike said he had explained to the NBA president why he did not support her during the association’s leadership process. He also criticised her decision to invite a former governor whom he accused of shutting down the courts in the state for nearly two years.

“I will tell the NBA president: what would you say will be your legacy? As the Minister of the FCT, what would I say I have done?” Wike said.

He questioned the direction of the association, saying the decision to invite the former governor raised concerns about the NBA’s priorities.

The minister also defended the Federal Government’s record in the Federal Capital Territory, saying all projects initiated under President Bola Tinubu would be completed before the administration’s tenure ends.

“Before this tenure expires, every project started under Bola Tinubu would have been completed,” he said.

Wike further challenged critics to compare the Tinubu administration’s development projects in Abuja with those implemented by previous governments, claiming that no administration in the history of the FCT had achieved as much.
