More than 10 youths injured during an attack on the convoy of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi in Benue State have reportedly been taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi.

Obi’s convoy was blocked by youths along the Gboko-Makurdi Expressway on Tuesday as he travelled to Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area to sympathise with victims of the June 13, 2025 terrorist attack.

Obi later accused the Special Assistant to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Youths of masterminding the incident and mobilising youths to prevent his movement.

An official of BSUTH, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that more than 10 injured people were brought to the hospital for treatment on Tuesday.

“Over 10 wounded victims were brought in here yesterday for urgent medical attention. They are being treated,” the official said, adding that the hospital could not confirm whether they were involved in the incident involving Obi.

The official said the patients were being treated as accident victims, were responding to treatment and that none had died.

Efforts to obtain further confirmation from BSUTH Chief Medical Director, Dr Stephen Hwande, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.

However, NDC Benue State Publicity Secretary Agile-Bem Jabez Ordedoo claimed that one of the youths allegedly involved in the attack had died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

“We regret to announce to you that one amongst the young men sponsored to attack the Presidential and Governorship candidates of NDC has passed on this morning at teaching hospital, Makurdi,” Ordedoo said.
