Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has said some of her Christian fans unfollowed her on social media after she publicly disclosed that she is Muslim.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ade said she had previously been reluctant to openly discuss her faith because of what she described as the challenges of identifying as a Muslim in Nollywood.

“In my line of work, it is almost forbidden for you to publicly say you are a Muslim. You could be looked down upon for doing that,” she said.

The actress said she eventually decided to speak openly about her religion after becoming tired of keeping it private.

Ade explained that her faith is not defined by outward appearances but by how she treats other people. She also said she had attended different churches but found Islam to be the faith that suited her.

“Islam for me is not all about outward look. It is what is within. How you treat others,” she said.

According to Ade, her disclosure prompted some Christian followers to unfollow her, while others sent messages attempting to persuade her to change her faith.

She said many Muslims, however, welcomed her after she spoke publicly about her religion, adding that she was not concerned about losing followers because of her personal beliefs.
