Kwara Records High Compliance in October Sanitation Exercise

The Kwara State Government has recorded a high level of compliance during the October 2026 environmental sanitation exercise across Ilorin metropolis, with residents and business operators largely observing the restriction on human and vehicular movement.

Emirate Radio correspondent, Maryam Haruna Muhammad, reports that the General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Honourable Jide Aina, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and compliance, commending residents for their cooperation and the state government for its efforts to promote a clean and healthy environment.

Areas monitored during the exercise included the Emir’s Palace, which served as the central meeting point for environmental officials, as well as Oja-Oba, General Roundabout, Unity, Post Office, Maraba, Zango, Harmony, Gambari and Oja-Ipata.

Most of the areas recorded substantial compliance, although a minor violation was reported around Lare-Gada, where environmental officials seized a gas cylinder from a food vendor who was found operating during the exercise.

The Director of Environmental Health Services, Mrs Mary Mustapha, warned that the government would take action against anyone violating sanitation regulations, particularly operators of commercial motor parks.

She also disclosed that mobile courts would be deployed to some motor parks to enforce compliance and prosecute offenders in accordance with the law.

The exercise ended with officials urging residents to sustain the practice of regular environmental cleaning and support government efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier Kwara State.
