Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has dismissed reports linking Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior with a move to Arsenal, describing the speculation as a strategy to strengthen the Brazilian’s contract negotiations with the Spanish club.
Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, the former Super Eagles captain insisted Vinícius has no intention of leaving the Santiago Bernabéu and believes the transfer rumours are being used to secure improved contract terms.
“He’s not coming. Forget about that. He’s just using Arsenal to get a better deal. He’s not leaving Real Madrid,” Mikel said.
Speculation over the Brazil international’s future has intensified in recent weeks, with Arsenal among the clubs reportedly interested in signing the winger. However, Mikel maintained that Vinícius remains committed to Real Madrid and is unlikely to consider a move away from the La Liga giants.
His comments add to the growing debate surrounding the 26-year-old’s future, as discussions over a new contract with Real Madrid continue
