Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticised the performance of candidates at the Osun State governorship debate, saying they failed to present clear ideas and a compelling vision for the state.

Oseni made the assessment on Wednesday, a day after the town hall debate involving candidates contesting the August 15 governorship election.

He said the candidates, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, focused more on defending their records and attacking opponents than presenting practical solutions to the state’s challenges.

“I felt like the candidates didn’t present bright ideas. All of them. And I felt it’s very lacklustre what Osun State is going to get,” Oseni said.

He said Adeleke spent much of the debate defending his administration’s achievements, including its road projects, but failed to articulate what he described as a broader vision for the state.

“Governor Adeleke was reacting to many things, trying to defend his administration, but I didn’t see a lot of brightness. I didn’t see a lot of vision. I saw more attacks,” he said.

Oseni, however, singled out the Peoples Redemption Party candidate for providing what he considered a more detailed approach to healthcare.

“I think it was only the PRP candidate that put a finger on what was happening in the health sector, probably because he’s a medical doctor and because of what he said he was going to do to improve it,” he said.

The debate featured candidates contesting the August 15, 2026, governorship election, as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the poll.
