The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that a recent judgment of the Lagos State High Court does not personally implicate Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Jimoh Moshood.

In a statement on Monday, the Force urged the public to disregard what it described as misleading interpretations of the judgment circulating on social media.

The clarification followed a fundamental rights suit decided on August 7, 2026, by Justice O. L. Alebiosu of the Lagos State High Court. The suit was filed by Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen against the Inspector-General of Police and two other defendants.

According to the police, Moshood was not a party to the suit and was therefore not personally bound by the judgment.

The Force said the ruling was against the Nigeria Police Force as an institution and should not be interpreted as a personal indictment of any police officer.

It also clarified that the fundamental rights case is separate from a pending murder charge involving the applicant. While the rights suit concerned alleged violations of fundamental rights, the murder case remains a distinct criminal proceeding before the court.

The police further said that on August 7, the court heard a bail application and directed that it be filed before the judge handling the substantive murder case. It stressed that the outcome of the fundamental rights proceedings does not affect the pending criminal case.

The Force said it reserves the right to appeal the fundamental rights judgment where necessary, while urging the public and media to rely on official court records rather than speculation.

It also cautioned against what it described as media campaigns, rumours and misleading narratives, urging all parties to allow the judicial process to run its course.
