The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, Aisha Musa, for allegedly attempting to poison her husband in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area.
The police said the suspect, who had been married for about 40 days, allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into her husband’s food on August 12, 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the command received a distress call at about 7:40 p.m. from a woman in the Wunti Dada area, prompting officers from the ‘C’ Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, to respond.
The victim was taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he is receiving treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
Habib said Musa was arrested shortly after the incident and allegedly confessed during questioning. Police investigators also recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poison, alongside remnants of the meal, which were taken as exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The police said the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
