At least 20 individuals, including suspected gun runners and their logistical aides, have been arrested in Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area following a major security operation aimed at curbing rising criminal activity.
The operation, led by nearly 400 special operatives, was launched by the Kwara State Government in partnership with the Office of the National Security Adviser. It targeted multiple local governments, including Ifelodun, Ekiti, Edu, and Patigi, where recent security breaches had been reported.
According to a statement from the Government House in Ilorin, many of the suspects were caught with ammunition and supplies allegedly intended for criminal groups. Ten of those arrested are being transferred to Abuja for further interrogation. The operation has also resulted in the release of several captives previously held in the area.
Authorities said the crackdown is part of a broader regional effort, involving coordination with security agencies in neighboring Kogi and Niger states to prevent suspects from fleeing across state lines. The Eruku area is also under lockdown.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements and urged the public to report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
