The Oyo State Government has trained 80 civil servants in basic computer operations and applications as part of efforts to improve digital skills and enhance service delivery across the state’s public service.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan.
According to Oyelade, the three-week intensive programme was organised by the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre to strengthen workplace efficiency and equip civil servants with practical digital skills for their duties in ministries, departments and agencies.
He said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to continuous capacity building and developing a digitally competent workforce.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Head of Service, Mrs Adenike Fasina, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Career Management Service, Mr Muyiwa Olagoke, praised the training centre for its role in human resource development and assured it of continued government support.
The Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Prof. Saliu Adelabu, said the state government is transitioning from conventional administration to a digital system through the introduction of Business Process Automation.
“The state government is migrating from conventional administration to a virtual system. Everything will soon be online, and computer literacy has become essential for effective public-sector administration,” Adelabu said.
He explained that while many civil servants already possess basic computer knowledge, the training was designed to provide practical skills that would improve governance and public service delivery.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Alhaji Alade Bello, urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in their respective workplaces and continue developing their digital competencies.
Participants who spoke on behalf of the trainees described the programme as valuable, saying it had improved their practical computer skills and would enhance their career development within the civil service.
