The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed viral social media reports claiming it confirmed widespread kidney trafficking involving young residents of Mararaba, Nyanya, Karu and other parts of Abuja.

The command described the claims as false and urged residents to disregard the publication.

The rumour originated from a Facebook post by a user identified as Labran Abu Labco, who alleged that almost all young people in the affected communities had sold their kidneys in exchange for money and that an agent based in Mararaba was buying human kidneys.

Responding to the claims, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command had neither received nor confirmed any report of such incidents.

“The Command has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature, and no statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the Command,” Adeh said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

She urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing fear, panic and unnecessary apprehension among residents.

The police also encouraged anyone with credible information about alleged human organ trafficking or any other security concern within the FCT to report it to the nearest police station for investigation.

The command reiterated its commitment to investigating verified security reports while urging the public to rely only on official sources for information.
