Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has responded to the Nigeria Police Force’s invitation over comments he made during the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.

VDM was a panellist at the NBA’s 66th Annual General Conference on Tuesday, where he alleged that some police officers stationed at highway checkpoints pass information about travellers to kidnappers and bandits.

Following the remarks, the Nigeria Police Force, through its spokesperson, CSP Ani Iniedu, invited the activist to provide evidence to support his allegations.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the police said the invitation was part of efforts to investigate the claims and determine their validity.

Responding in a post on his official Facebook page, VDM maintained his position and said he would not submit any evidence to the police unless the matter is taken to court.

He further alleged that some police personnel are involved in criminal activities linked to Nigeria’s security challenges, including kidnappings. VDM did not provide evidence to support the claims in his response.

The Nigeria Police Force has not responded publicly to VDM’s latest comments beyond its earlier request for evidence.

The exchange follows the activist’s remarks at the NBA conference, which have generated widespread public discussion about policing and security in Nigeria.
