A public dispute has erupted between two sons of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, after Bashir El-Rufai launched a series of allegations against his elder brother, Bello El-Rufai, on social media.

Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was accused by Bashir of hypocrisy, disloyalty to the family and substance abuse in posts shared online.

In the posts, Bashir alleged that Bello had remained aligned with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani despite the political fallout between the governor and their father. He also claimed Bello only returned to the family’s side after his relationship with Governor Sani deteriorated.

Bashir further alleged that his brother had told him to take his own life, prompting him to respond with a series of personal insults and accusations.

Among his claims, Bashir accused Bello of serving his own political interests rather than supporting the family’s position during the disagreement between Nasir El-Rufai and Governor Sani.

Bello has not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report.

The rift comes amid the long-running political dispute between Nasir El-Rufai and Governor Uba Sani, once close allies in Kaduna politics.

Their relationship deteriorated after Sani said his administration inherited significant debts and contractual liabilities from the previous government, arguing that the financial burden had affected governance and development in the state.

Since then, Bashir El-Rufai has frequently criticised Governor Sani’s administration on social media, while Bello had largely stayed out of the exchanges and previously described the governor as a political mentor.

The latest online exchange has brought the family’s political differences into the public spotlight, further highlighting divisions linked to the ongoing feud between the former governor and his successor.
