Global ride-hailing company Uber has announced plans to end its operations in Nigeria after 12 years in the country.

The company said in a statement on Wednesday that its Nigerian operations would cease effective September 2, 2026.

Uber began operations in Nigeria with its launch in Lagos in 2014, connecting passengers with independent drivers through its ride-hailing platform.

“We are writing to share some difficult news. After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026,” the company said.

Uber thanked its customers for using the platform for daily commutes, family visits and other journeys, saying it had been a privilege to serve the country.

“We know this may cause disruption to your routine, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” the company said.

The company said its help centre would remain available until September 23, 2026, to assist customers with final account-related enquiries.

“Thank you for welcoming us into your city,” Uber added.
