Sultan Condoles Hotpen Publisher Dangida Over Wife’s Death

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has condoled with the Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief of Hotpen Newspaper and Mahangar Arewa Magazine, Kano, Mallam Aliyu Dangida, over the death of his wife, Hajia Maryam Abdullahi Gote.

Hajia Maryam died on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Arewa Surgery, Kano, following complications related to a heart condition.

In a condolence message, the Sultan described Dangida as an effective member of his Media Team representing the North-West, and expressed sadness over the loss of his wife, whom he said had been a source of strength and support to him.

He noted that her counsel and support had contributed to her husband’s work in the media and public discourse, making her death particularly painful.

“We are sad, but because Allah is the One who gives and takes life, we can only praise Him and beseech Him to forgive Hajia Maryam Gote’s shortcomings and admit her gentle soul into Al-Jannatul Firdaus. Amiin,” the Sultan prayed.

He urged Dangida and the bereaved family to accept the death as an act of divine decree and seek solace in Allah.

The Sultan also prayed for the deceased to be granted eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus and for the family to receive the strength to bear the loss.

The condolence message was signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto.
