Troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion have discovered three decomposing bodies believed to belong to terrorists who were wounded and later died while fleeing a failed attack in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the bodies were found at about 9:30 a.m. on September 3 during an exploitation operation northeast of Kukawa, along the Jemmù-Alagarno axis.

The discovery followed an attempted attack on troops at Cross Kauwa in Kukawa LGA on August 28. The assault was reportedly repelled, with several of the attackers sustaining injuries.

According to the sources, the wounded terrorists later died along their withdrawal route. “Troops discovered the three decomposing bodies during the exploitation of the area,” one source said.

The operation was conducted to trace the attackers’ withdrawal routes and recover weapons and equipment abandoned during the failed assault, the source added.

Recovered items included a damaged AK-47 rifle, a solar panel, a camouflage shuttle bag, a prayer mat, an empty PKT ammunition link and a raincoat.

The three bodies were subsequently buried in situ.
