The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University (PLASU) branch, has suspended its strike after reaching an agreement with the Plateau State Government on the union’s six-point demands.

The decision was reached at an emergency congress meeting in Jos on Tuesday, where members reviewed the issues that prompted the industrial action on August 26, 2026.

In a statement signed by the branch chairperson, Dr Vincent D. Choji, and secretary, Dr Lomka Iliya Kopdiya, the union said the suspension followed an agreement reached by negotiating teams representing both sides.

The government delegation was led by the Head of Service, Steven Pam Gadong, while ASUU’s team was led by its zonal coordinator, Professor Aku Timothy Namo.

Among the issues resolved was the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme and the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement, including payment of outstanding arrears from January 2026.

The agreement also addressed the provision of safe and secure staff quarters and the construction of trenches around the university’s perimeter fence.

The union said the government further agreed to end what it described as the intimidation of union leaders, an issue previously raised in a letter sent to the union’s congress through the university registrar on May 18, 2026.

The agreement also covers the payment of 22 months’ arrears arising from the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage awards.

“Having reviewed the agreement, Congress resolved that the strike be suspended with effect from 12:00 midnight, 16th September, 2026,” the statement said.

ASUU subsequently directed its members to resume academic activities at the university.
