Gunmen Abduct Nine Worshippers In Benue Night Vigil


The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of nine worshippers during a night vigil at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ojije community, Utonkon district of Ado Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Udeme, disclosed the incident on Monday, saying the victims were taken by armed assailants who stormed the church during the vigil.

According to the police, the attackers arrived late at night and abducted the worshippers, whisking them away to an undisclosed location.

DSP Udeme said the Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical and operational units to the area to intensify search-and-rescue operations.

She assured residents that the command is committed to safeguarding lives and property and would spare no effort to secure the release of the victims.

The police have also reinforced security in vulnerable communities across the local government area to prevent further attacks.

Investigations are ongoing, while efforts continue to rescue the abducted worshippers and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
