Suspected kidnappers have abducted a couple from their home in the Iluabo community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, heightening tension in the area.
The attackers reportedly stormed Olaribigba Estate around 9:45 p.m. on Friday and whisked Mr. Jamiu Olawale and his wife into nearby bushes after ambushing them at their residence.
Residents protested the incident, barricading the road leading into the agrarian community to demand stronger security presence following repeated cases of kidnapping.
Sources said the couple had just arrived home in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry when the gunmen struck.
During the attack, a neighbour identified as Patrick Ilumaro, who was sitting outside his home, was shot while attempting to escape. He was later rushed to a medical facility where he is receiving treatment, according to residents.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying tactical and conventional operatives had been deployed to comb the area and rescue the victims.
Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said efforts were underway to track the suspects and secure the safe return of the abducted couple.
He urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information to assist investigators.
Security authorities said patrols have been intensified in the community as part of ongoing operations to apprehend those responsible.
