The death toll from Friday’s attack on Tashan Maje, Saduro and Runtuwa communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State has risen to 15, local sources said on Sunday.
Two additional victims reportedly died on Saturday from injuries sustained during the assault, increasing the number of confirmed fatalities.
A local news platform, Voice of Borgu, had earlier reported that suspected bandits carried out the attack at about 6 p.m. on February 28, 2026. One person was initially confirmed dead, while another sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Residents said the attackers fled shortly after the incident, but fear and tension persist across the affected communities amid concerns of further violence.
Community members have called on security agencies to strengthen patrols and prevent additional attacks.
“We call on security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify efforts in protecting these communities and ensuring that peace is restored. No citizen should live in constant fear—security and swift action are urgently needed,” the report stated.
