Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed reports that Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta has signed a deal to become technical director of the Moroccan national team.
The clarification follows the resignation of Morocco head coach Walid Regragui, who stepped down with immediate effect just six weeks after the team’s Africa Cup of Nations final defeat to Senegal on home soil.
Regragui’s departure triggered speculation about possible structural changes within the Moroccan Football Federation, with reports suggesting Iniesta had agreed to take up the technical role.
However, Romano stated in a post on X on Friday that no agreement has been finalised.
“Despite reports, nothing signed or official yet between Andrés Iniesta and Morocco to become the new technical director,” Romano wrote. “Talks are taking place, the Moroccan Federation wants Iniesta as director, but not a done deal yet. Decision up to Andrés.”
According to the transfer journalist, discussions remain ongoing, with the final decision resting on Iniesta.
The former Spain international and World Cup winner has been exploring coaching and administrative roles since retiring from professional football, but no official appointment has been confirmed.
