Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation of Taiwo Oyedele as Finance Minister

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance.

The request was contained in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during plenary on Tuesday. Tinubu said the nomination was made in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

“In compliance with the provisions of Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate for confirmation the nomination of Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the president wrote.

Tinubu also expressed hope that the Senate would give the request swift consideration.

Following the announcement, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative review.

The president had earlier nominated Oyedele for the position on March 3, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed as Minister of State in the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning.

Oyedele, an economist, accountant, and public policy expert, previously served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform.

He played a key role in developing recent tax reform proposals aimed at improving government revenue and simplifying Nigeria’s tax system to support economic growth and business development.
