Defence Minister Orders Service Chiefs to Review Northern Operations

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has directed the country’s service chiefs to visit the North-West and North-East regions to reassess and strengthen ongoing military operations amid rising insecurity.

The directive was issued on Wednesday during a meeting with the service chiefs at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja. The meeting was convened to address the worsening security situation in the affected regions.

According to the minister’s media adviser, Timothy Antigha, the visit is intended to enable military leaders to evaluate current strategies and recommend improvements to ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

“Ensure you rejig military operations in the North-East and North-West region,” Musa told the service chiefs, Antigha said.

The service chiefs are expected to return with a detailed report outlining their findings and proposals for strengthening security efforts in the two regions.

The directive follows a recent surge in attacks by terrorist groups in the North-East and North-West, where military bases have been targeted and several security personnel killed.

Security challenges in the regions have remained a major concern for the federal government, with authorities intensifying efforts to curb insurgency, banditry, and other forms of violent crime.

The Defence Ministry said the review of military operations is part of broader efforts to improve operational effectiveness and restore stability in the troubled areas.
