Popular social media influencer King Mitchy has issued a public apology following backlash over a recent live video in which she admitted to taking a substance on air.
In a statement shared on her Instagram page, Mitchy acknowledged her actions were inappropriate and expressed regret for disappointing her followers, particularly young girls who look up to her.
“I’m ready to be held accountable for my actions. For some days I’ve reflected on my behaviour and I know that I was wrong,” she wrote.
She admitted that using the substance during the live session was wrong and said she regrets the incident. “I want to be held accountable for the substance I took on live video. That was very wrong of me because there are young girls that are looking up to me, and I know I disappointed a lot of people,” she added.
Mitchy also apologised publicly to her employer, Seyi Tinubu, stating that while she had apologised privately, the public nature of the incident required a formal apology.
“My boss, ST Seyi Tinubu, I’m so sorry. I know I apologised privately, but I disrespected you publicly, so I want to apologise publicly. I’m truly sorry, sir,” she said.
She extended an apology to the Ooni of Ife for mentioning his name during the controversy, saying, “To the Ooni of Ife, I’m so sorry for bringing your name into this, daddy.”
Mitchy also addressed activist VeryDarkMan, acknowledging his advocacy and expressing regret for previously confronting him.
“To VeryDarkMan, my brother, I see what you’re fighting for, you’re fighting for Nigeria, and we can make Nigeria a better place. I’m sorry for coming at you like that. Maybe now I understand you better,” she said.
She concluded by noting that the activist needs more supporters rather than critics, adding, “You need more supporters, not people to fight you. I’m sorry, my brother. Thank you.”
