ADC Emerges as Leading Opposition, More Defections Expected

Legal practitioner Kenneth Okonkwo has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, predicting that additional politicians will soon join its ranks.

Okonkwo made the comments on Channels TV during a Friday morning briefing, noting that the party’s growth is not driven by access to government power or resources.

“We’re not APC; we don’t have power to give and we don’t have resources to give. It’s not even within our reach because we are not the ruling power,” he said, referring to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He argued that the ADC’s appeal comes from a coalition of opposition leaders determined to challenge the APC, making the party the most viable platform for dissent.

“The truth is that ADC, the African Democratic Congress, is today the leading opposition party,” Okonkwo stated.

The lawyer noted that he had previously advised opposition figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party to unite to effectively counter the ruling party.

“When they coalesced, they were able to deal with the APC, which has constituted itself as an enemy of democracy and the welfare of the people,” he added.

Okonkwo also highlighted that nine senators had already defected to the ADC, giving the party a growing presence in the National Assembly.

He predicted that more politicians would join the ADC as the political landscape shifts ahead of future elections.

“You will see more politicians joining us soon, and APC will soon be history by the grace of God,” he said.
