Several residents have been displaced after heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms caused widespread damage in parts of Ibadan on Friday.
The downpour destroyed houses and other structures worth millions of naira across several communities in the city, according to local residents.
Areas reportedly affected include Alaaka, Igbonna and communities along the Apete–Awotan–Akufo Road, where buildings and other property were damaged by the storm.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said at least five houses were severely affected, leaving some families without shelter.
“Some houses were affected in our area as a result of the heavy rain that wreaked havoc in our community. I can count about five buildings, while other structures were also damaged. Some people have been displaced,” the resident said.
He appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency and the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency to provide assistance to those affected.
The storm also disrupted broadcasting activities at Noble 107.1 FM, where some equipment was reportedly damaged.
A staff member of the station confirmed that the outlet has been off air since the incident, adding that efforts are underway to restore operations.
