The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced plans to adopt a consensus method for electing party executives ahead of its upcoming congresses and national convention.
In a statement issued by factional National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe and Board of Trustees (BoT) Secretary Rufus Ikanmi, the party said the decision was intended to promote unity, inclusiveness, and internal cohesion among members.
The party leadership said the Board of Trustees and National Working Committee agreed that adopting a consensus approach for executive elections at all levels would strengthen cooperation and collective leadership within the party.
According to the statement, the decision aligns with the party’s constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
The party also announced a membership registration exercise for new members, scheduled to run from March 14 to March 25, 2026. Interested individuals are required to register at their respective ward offices and collect membership cards from the Continuous Membership Registration Committee.
ADC clarified that the registration exercise is strictly for new members, adding that existing members are not required to renew their membership during the period.
The party released a timetable for its congresses, with ward congresses set for March 19, local government congresses on March 24, and state congresses on March 28. The national convention is scheduled to take place between April 3 and April 5, 2026.
It added that issues arising from the congresses will be addressed between the various stages, with final matters from the national convention expected to be resolved between April 6 and April 10.
Meanwhile, the party distanced itself from an ongoing electronic membership mobilization, registration, and revalidation exercise reportedly being carried out by members of a coalition. The leadership urged members and stakeholders to disregard any unofficial registration processes, noting that the party’s official online registration portal will be announced through its verified channels.
