Lamido Urges PDP Unity, Backs Wike’s Caretaker Committee Plan

Former governor of Jigawa State Sule Lamido has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support a caretaker committee arrangement proposed by Nyesom Wike as part of efforts to stabilise the party.

Lamido, a founding member of the PDP, made the appeal while speaking with journalists during a Ramadan Iftar gathering with party leaders and supporters in Bamaina, his hometown in Jigawa State.

He urged party members to prioritise reconciliation and unity in order to rebuild the party’s strength following internal disagreements and leadership challenges.

According to Lamido, Wike acted strategically by proposing the caretaker committee at a time when the party faced a leadership vacuum following the expiration of the tenure of its National Working Committee (NWC).

“Wike is someone who is really clever. I think he realised the situation and managed to form a caretaker committee. By the time the existing NWC term ended, the only structure in place was the one backed by Wike,” Lamido said.

Despite ongoing tensions within the party, the former governor stressed the need for dialogue and inclusion, noting that all key stakeholders should be engaged in efforts to move the party forward.

He said party members should be willing to work with Wike and other leaders, regardless of personal differences, in the interest of unity and reconciliation.

“Even though many people may not like Wike or may disagree with him, we should still invite him in the spirit of brotherhood, PDP unity, and reconciliation,” Lamido added.
