Lagos APC Applauds Return of Monthly Sanitation Exercise

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the Lagos State Government for reinstating the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state, describing it as a mark of responsible and responsive governance.

In a statement by the party spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the APC said the move reflects the state government’s commitment to safeguarding public health, promoting cleanliness, and encouraging residents to actively maintain a sustainable urban environment.

The party highlighted Lagos as one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities, stressing that environmental sustainability requires collective efforts from both government and residents.

According to the statement, the revival of the sanitation exercise demonstrates the government’s determination to uphold high standards of environmental management while motivating citizens to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their communities.

The APC also noted the historical significance of the sanitation exercise, which has long played a role in promoting civic responsibility and a culture of cleanliness among residents.

The programme, the party said, will help address sanitation challenges, raise public awareness about proper waste disposal, drainage maintenance, and overall environmental hygiene.

Describing the initiative as a strategic step toward preventive public health measures, the party said it would reduce environmental risks and tackle sanitation-related concerns in communities.

The APC called on residents, community development associations, market groups, youth organisations, and civil society groups to participate actively and support the initiative.

“Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility, and the success of this exercise depends largely on the cooperation and engagement of all Lagosians,” the statement added.

The party expressed confidence that the policy would significantly contribute to transforming Lagos into a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable megacity.
