Several passengers were injured on Monday after a train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed following a collision near Asham.

The incident was confirmed by Kayode Opeifa in an exclusive statement.

According to Opeifa, no fatalities have been reported, but injured passengers were evacuated to Idu Train Station for medical attention.

He added that the Nigerian Railway Corporation is conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the derailment.

“It is confirmed that our Abuja-Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause of the incident,” Opeifa said.

Authorities are working to ensure that all affected passengers receive prompt medical care and support.

The NRC has urged travellers to remain patient as operations and investigations continue in the area.

This incident adds to growing concerns about rail safety on Nigeria’s high-speed train routes.
